OMOD

Well, as a youthy group we have decided to be a part of the One Meal One Day experience. I know I posted about it, like, two days ago, but in this post, I'm going to include all of the specific info. You can use this post as a referral post if you ever have a question about what's goin on with OMOD. here we go,

What: A youth movement committed to raising awareness and funds for global hunger.
When: October 20, 2010.
Where: Wherever you are when you skip your meal (school, home, work, dentist, farm, zoo, etc)
Why:  To help Compassion fund the feeding of millions of children across the globe.
Who: Youth Groups all across the United States.
How: You giving up one meal on Oct. 20, 2010, and give the money you would have spent (whether at a restaurant or  in a grocery bill) to Compassion to feed hungry kids.

Hopefully everyone understands clearly what's going on now. ;)
Now, our youth group must realize something. This is a big event. However, as you've probably noticed, our youth group is rather small. So, our OMOD has been customized to fit our youth group so we can better participate in this experience. With that being said, here are some of our personal goals:

Group Goal ($): $156
Individual donation: whatever you would spend at a restaurant ($5)

I know that if we were to each donate $5, we would have well over $100. If we got our families (the people we actually live with) to also give up a meal and donate $5, we would exceed our Group Goal amount.
(Our Group Goal amount, by the way, will feed one child for an entire year. Exceeding that would be fantastic!)

Please pray about how much you are going to give. Please pray also about what meal you are going to give up. I am personally going to give up either lunch or dinner. Why not breakfast? Well, most days I don't even eat breakfast, so not eating b-fast on Oct. 20, wouldn't exactly be a fast from anything. I hope you do the same, whichever meal it ends up being! :)

Closer to time (around the beginning of October) I'll hand out envelopes for you to put the donations you collect in them. Then on October 20, which is a Wednesday night, you can bring them to Bible study and we can see how much we raised! I'll be responsible for sending in all donations (checks are best BTW) to Compassion. Also that night, we can share how are day went, skipping a meal.

For now, since we're about a month off, the folks at OMOD ask that we take one day a week during lunch time to pray for the children that are going to be affected by OMOD. Pray that through Compassion's blessing of food to them ,they will come to know Christ and live to spread the Good News!
More updates will follow this, but for now, this is the basic info.
I hope everyone decides to participate in this nation-wide event!
:)
